Weekly Recap (Key take-aways)
The Wizards were brought back to earth after losing their only two games on the road to Milwaukee and OKC, ending their 5 game winning streak.
Final scores
Milwaukee 123 * Wizards 113 : The Wizards stayed in the game for the most part but Giannis was too much for them and ended up scoring a career high 55 points + Beal got injured 13 minutes into the game and did not return. Not a terrible loss.
Oklahoma 127 * Wizards 110 : I'm not gonna lie, this one was ugly. The game got away from the Wizards towards the end of the second half and there was no real recovery after that. There was a 10-0 run where it seemed that things might turn around but alas, it was not meant to be. Wizards had 20 turnovers to cap it off.
Key Take-Away
We have established that the new starting line up with Gafford at the 5 has potential. We've been waiting on it for a while and Coach Unseld finally gave it a shot. Let's hope he keeps it going. Here is what he said about the winning streak earlier this week.
Beal injured again...
Beal will miss the next two games and be re-evaluated next week.
Did the team bring our darling Brad back too early? Beal previously injured his right hamstring in November but "supposedly" had recovered from that injury.
If Beal has a grade 2 strain, like Delon Wright’s did early season, it would not be unrealistic to see him out for two months. Timetables can vary widely however, due to a number of reasons according to Dr. Matthew Levine of The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics.
MIKE'S HOT TAKE: I am a bit worried about Beal and where his head must be at these days. We often see an injured star on the bench like Curry or Lebron engaged in a game even though they are not playing because of an injury. We see them getting pumped after a big basket, throwing hi-fives, talking to teammates in a huddle during a timeout, overall just brining support and positive energy. Last game, I barely saw Beal stand up and when the camera cut to him he just looked defeated. Makes me think he really is considering leaving. It's a bit concerning, that's all I'm saying.
Wizards have the easiest remaining schedule for the rest of the year
It could be smooth sailing from here on out for the Wizards but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Wizards have had the third-most difficult schedule (.515) in the NBA. Only the Bulls and Raptors have had a tougher road to this point, according to ESPN's RPI rankings.
The flip side of the Wizards playing such a challenging schedule in the first half of the season is that things are set to lighten up in the second half. In fact, they have the easiest remaining schedule (.484) according to Tankathon.
Upcoming Schedule for next week:
Wizards vs Pelicans, January 9th @ 7pm (Zion is out btw)
Wizards vs Bulls, January 11th @7pm (Both teams tied for the 10th spot in the EAST)
Wizards vs Knicks, January 13th @ 7pm (Get ready for pesky Knick fans @ Cap1)
Gafford Anime T-Shirts
During the broadcast on Friday night there was a short segment on how the Wizards's coaching staff is showing support each week to a different player by wearing t-shirts of...whatever.
This week the coaches wore t-shirts of Daniel Gafford's favorite anime Dragonball (Yes, Gafford likes to watch cartoons 😬).
Anyway, they looked kind of cool and if you want one we found where you can buy them online. Check the link here.
DC 12 Event this week...
If you are part of the DC 12 Club, this Wednesday, January 11th after the Wizards vs. Bulls game go see your name on the floor! Members in attendance will also have the opportunity to shoot a free-throw and have their picture taken at center court. Here is the image that will be on the court (good luck finding your name 😩)
