Wizards cut 2 players ahead of season opener including 14 year veteran

NBA veteran Taj Gibson, who played 49 games for the Washington Wizards last season, has been released by the team according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. In his time with the Wizards, Gibson averaged 3.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and shot 52.0% from the field.

Gibson, a 14-year NBA veteran, was drafted 26th overall in 2009 and has played for several teams during his career. He has career averages of 8.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game.

The Wizards had a disappointing season, finishing as the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 35-47 record and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year. They open the regular season against the Indiana Pacers on October 25.

In addition, the Wizards also released Xavier Cooks who they signed last season. Cook spent his rookie year with team after coming over from Australia and averaged 3.8 mpg and 3.8 rebounds.
